On 3 June 2026, UNU will host “Egypt and Japan: Strategic Partners for Peace and Stability in the Middle East and Beyond”, a conversation with H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The event will begin at 16:30 in the 2F Reception Hall at UNU Headquarters in Tokyo.
As a founding member of the United Nations, Egypt has long been an active and influential member state, exemplifying its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals through Egypt Vision 2030 and its hosting of COP27 in 2022. These shared multilateral values underpin Egypt and Japan’s Strategic Partnership with both countries engaging in multilateral forums including TICAD 9, Expo 2025 Osaka, and the 2025 UHC High-Level Forum. As a key stabilizing actor, Egypt plays a vital role in facilitating dialogue and humanitarian coordination, making it a valued partner for Japan’s diplomatic engagement in the Middle East and Africa.
In this conversation, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty will join UNU Rector Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala for a high-level dialogue on diplomacy, international peace and security, and regional stability, including in the Middle East. The discussion will highlight the evolving strategic partnership between Egypt and Japan, underscoring their shared commitment to promoting peace and strengthening collaborative responses to regional and global challenges across the Middle East and beyond.
The event is part of the UNU Conversation Series, which aims to foster audience participation. You are encouraged to engage with the speakers during the conversation and at the reception that will follow, where all event attendees are invited to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks while exchanging ideas and making new contacts.
