UNU Resource Nexus is participating in the seventeenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), taking place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, under the theme "Restoring Land, Restoring Hope."
As countries and communities confront accelerating land degradation, increasing water stress, and growing pressures on natural resources, UNU Resource Nexus will bring its interdisciplinary expertise to discussions on how interconnected resource challenges can be addressed through integrated, evidence-informed solutions.
"UNU Resource Nexus values its longstanding collaboration with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)," said Dr. Alexey Alekseenko, Head of Research at UNU Resource Nexus. "Having participated in previous Conferences of the Parties, we see COP17 as an important opportunity to contribute scientific expertise, engage with policymakers and practitioners, and advance integrated resource management practices that support more sustainable responses to environmental and development challenges."
Throughout COP17, experts from UNU Resource Nexus will contribute to panel discussions, deliver keynote presentations, and share insights on sustainable development, land restoration, and other interconnected issues. The Institute will also engage in bilateral meetings with Member States, international organizations, and partners to strengthen existing collaborations and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
The Institute's participation is further enriched by its connections to Mongolia, including research undertaken in the country by Deputy Director Prof. Dr. Daniel Karthe and the contribution of a doctoral researcher from Mongolia within the UNU Resource Nexus academic community.
On the margins of COP17, the UNU Resource Nexus delegation will participate in a series of strategic engagements with partners and stakeholders to foster dialogue, exchange knowledge, and identify opportunities for future collaboration.
