Cesare Signorini is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Construction Materials, TU Dresden, Germany, and serves as co-Managing Director of the Cluster of Excellence “Climate-Neutral and Resource-Efficient Construction (CARE)” at TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen.
Cesare Signorini earned his PhD from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy in 2020, where he developed engineered composite materials for structural retrofitting.
With a track record of over 60 peer-reviewed studies (as of September 2026), Dr Signorini's work significantly impacts the fields of civil engineering and advanced materials technology. His research centres on developing high-toughness composite materials through advanced coatings, alternative processing routes, and low-clinker matrices to extend the life cycle and sustainability of infrastructure. Heavily engaged in international networks, he collaborates broadly on resource efficiency and the integration of circular economy principles within the built environment.
Since 2021, he has been junior Group Leader within the DFG Research Training Group 2250 at TU Dresden, where his research expanded to mineral-bonded fibre- and textile-reinforced composites for structural protection against extreme loads, concurrently exploring durability, thermal stability, and impact resistance. Furthermore, he develops eco-friendly cementitious composites using recycled fibres and plastics, holding an Italian patent for an optimised mix-design incorporating aggregates and fibres retrieved from end-of-life artificial sport pitches. Dr Signorini is active member of the RILEM TC 302-CNC and serves as Associate Editor for the international journal “Smart Materials for Manufacturing”.
At UNU Resource Nexus, he drives research in sustainable building and construction, focusing on novel low-carbon materials to extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure, as well as protecting and retrofitting built assets against extreme events.
