UNU Rector Visits Ministry of the Environment, Japan

Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala visited the Ministry of the Environment of Japan to meet with H.E. Ms. Miki Yamada, State Minister of the Environment.

On 2 March 2023, UNU Rector Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala visited the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) in Tokyo to meet with H.E. Ms. Miki Yamada, State Minister of the Environment.

State Minister Yamada congratulated Prof. Marwala on starting his term as UNU Rector on 1 March 2023. She expressed appreciation for UNU’s contributions to environmental policy through research, education, and capacity building on climate change, biodiversity, water, and other sustainable development issues.

Prof. Marwala thanked MOEJ for its financial contributions to the activities of the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), which had supported progress on global environmental challenges. He emphasised that UNU would strengthen its engagement with MOEJ and Japanese universities to build partnerships between the global North and global South aimed at advancing the global agenda on environment, sustainability, and peace.

State Minister Yamada and Prof. Marwala agreed to collaborate in pursuit of these priorities.
