On 21 July 2021, ten students graduated with degrees from the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), nine from the MSc in Sustainability programme and one in the PhD in Sustainability Science programme. This year’s graduates come from Cameroon, Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, U.S.A, Viet Nam and Zambia. To celebrate this special occasion, approximately 100 people participated in an online ceremony to congratulate the graduates.
At the graduation ceremony, UNU Rector David M. Malone, Senior Vice-Rector Taikan Oki and UNU-IAS Director Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi delivered congratulatory remarks to the graduates, followed by a special lecture from Helene von Reis (UNU-IAS Advisory Board Member; President CEO & CSO of IKEA Japan K.K.) UNU-IAS Academic Programme Officer Kensuke Fukushi gave a brief report on the PhD and MSc Programmes. Three of the new graduates, Albert Novas Somanje, Nguyen Ngoc Tien, and Amoah Emelda Atampokaalso gave speeches on behalf of their graduating classes.
The UNU-IAS postgraduate degree programmes develop future global leaders, who will make important contributions to the international community by advancing creative solutions to issues of sustainability. The UNU community extends its congratulations and well wishes to the graduates on their achievements and looks forward to hearing about their future endeavours.
