UNU-IAS at COP26

Learn about our contributions to the upcoming 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties to be held in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November 2021.

During 31 October–12 November 2021, UNU-IAS will be contributing to expert discussions at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, UK.

UNU-IAS will organize a side event and contribute to further events as listed below.

Carbon Neutrality and the SDGs — A UNU Forum

4 November, 17:00–18:30 GMT (5 November 02:00–03:30 JST)

Venue: UNFCCC COP26 Japan Pavilion and YouTube Live Stream

Organizers: UNU-IAS and Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC)

This side event will engage leading experts to discuss challenges and good practices for achieving both carbon neutrality by 2050 and the 2030 Agenda. It will facilitate discussion about the role of education and capacity building in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

14th Focal Point Forum of the Nairobi Work Programme on Biodiversity and Climate Change Adaptation

Organizer: UNFCCC

The Nairobi Work Programme (NWP)'s 14th Focal Point Forum will focus on biodiversity and climate change adaptation. This event will be held in collaboration with the NWP thematic expert groups on oceans, and biodiversity and adaptation (with focus on forests and grasslands). Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi (Director of UNU-IAS) will join the session.

Science & Films: The New Inspiration Couple?

Organizers: UNU Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), UNCCD, Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, UNFCCC, UNU-IAS

The climate science and policy community needs the support of the film, arts and creative communication to tell the climate emergency story and inspire hope and action. UNU institutes and UN partners are joining forces with Oscar-award winner director Dirk Wilutzky and BAFTA-winning director and filmmaker Sarah Macdonald, to discuss new ways of communicating climate science and policy to reach more people. Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi (Director, UNU-IAS) will join the discussion as a speaker.
