Kaoru Ichikawa is a Research Fellow with the International Satoyama Initiative of UNU-IAS. She received her PhD in Agriculture from the University of Tokyo, Japan. Prior to joining UNU-IAS, she was a project researcher at the University of Tokyo. At UNU-IAS she is involved in a variety of research aimed at deepening and promoting understanding of a wide range of socio-ecological production landscapes, the focus of the Satoyama Initiative, looking at examples from across the globe and studying their characteristics and impacts on biodiversity conservation and socio-economic conditions. Her other research interest involves landscape history, both environmental and socio-economic aspects, and its relevance to stakeholder recognition and landscape planning.
