Join us for a thought-provoking lecture by Prof. Maano Ramutsindela on reframing sustainability through the lens of socioecological debt! 

Prof. Ramutsindela and Future Africa Research Chair in Sustainability Transformations at the University of Cape Town and University of Pretoria, brings extensive expertise in human geography, conservation, and socio-ecological relations. With numerous prestigious accolades including the NRF President's Award and Fellowship of the Society of South African Geographers, he addresses a critical question: Can we reimagine sustainability by understanding the interconnected ecological and social debts of our past and present? 

In his upcoming lecture, "Reframing Sustainability through the Lens of Socioecological Debt," Prof. Ramutsindela will explore:  

  • The concept of socioecological debt and its implications for sustainability
  • Interconnections between ecological destruction and human life degradation
  • Pathways to sustainability that are alert to temporal, cultural, and environmental complexities
  • Approaches to reparation and redistributive justice in environmental contexts
