On 13 October, UNU will host the United Nations Singers Peace Concert “Promoting a Culture of Peace through Music and International Exchange”. This event will start at 18:00 in U Thant International Conference Hall at UNU Headquarters in Tokyo.
Established in 1947, the United Nations Singers are dedicated to promoting peace through music by delivering performances across the globe. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of Japan’s accession to the United Nations, the UN Singers are performing in Japan, the only nation to have suffered atomic bombings, to send a message of peace to the world.
Organized by the UN Singers Peace Concert Executive Committee, the UN Singers will collaborate and perform alongside Japanese musicians, including regional choirs and special guest performers. The programme will also feature remarks from UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala, the UN Singers Peace Concert Executive Committee Chair Ms. Mieko Ikegame Shibata, and a reading of a message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
