João Marco Silva is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) and an Assistant Professor at the University of Minho's Department of Informatics. He is also a Senior Researcher at INESC TEC’s High Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab), specializing in information security, network security, and energy-aware networking.

He has been teaching several master’s and bachelor’s courses on information security and cryptography and researching topics encompassing information security, network security, identity management systems, and energy-aware networking. He has been involved in and coordinated multiple research and innovation projects related to non-authoritative identification systems (ex: IDINA), security modelling and assessment (e.g., LightKone), and green networking (ex: Flexcom).
João holds a PhD in Informatics and an MSc in Network Engineering and Communication Services from the University of Minho. He also earned a BSc in Computer Science from Universidade Federal de Sergipe, providing him with a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of computer science and engineering.
