On 5 June 2023, UNU will  host “Reimagining Higher Education for a Complex World”, a conversation with Professor Adam Habib, Director of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. This event will start at 18:30 in the 2F Reception Hall at UNU Headquarters in Tokyo.

The global higher education system is in a period of intense change accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Travel restrictions and the deployment of online tuition have forced universities to rethink the nature of education and training. The increasingly high fees charged to international students have come under scrutiny as developing countries become concerned over a brain drain and loss of human capital, necessitating a reimagination of higher education systems.

Prof. Adam Habib will join UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala for a conversation exploring how higher education institutions can adapt to these pressures. How do we reimagine partnerships to enable shared teaching, curricula, and credentials across international borders? What new funding strategies must be adopted by universities and national governments? How do we ensure the Global South is not left behind in this transition?

The UNU Conversation Series aims to foster audience participation; you are encouraged to engage with the speakers during the conversation and at the reception that will follow, where all event attendees are invited to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks while exchanging ideas and making new contacts.

Please note that this event will be in English. Advance registration (by 4 June) is required. Please click on the REGISTER button above to access the online registration page.
