On 7 March 2023, UNU will host “Leveraging Collective Intelligence for a Sustainable Future: Human and Machine Intelligence”, a BIG IDEAS Dialogue with Dr Jingbo Huang, Director of the United Nations University Institute in Macau. This event will be held via Zoom webinar at 18:00 JST (UTC+9). 

UNU Macau conducts policy-relevant research on information communication technologies for development (ICT4D) at the intersection of digital technology and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The institute’s multidisciplinary team contributes to a diverse research portfolio, which covers areas such as artificial Intelligence and ethics, modeling and complex systems for disaster management and epidemiology, cyber resilience, and digital well-being.

Dr Huang will join UNU Senior Vice-Rector Sawako Shirahase to share UNU Macau’s journey in finding digital technology solutions to help achieve the SDGs. The conversation will explore the bright and dark sides of digital technology, and the need for a human-centred approach in building collective intelligence (human and machine) for a more sustainable future for all.

Please note this event will be in English; Japanese interpretation will not be provided. Advance registration by 6 March is required. Registrants will receive an email on the day of the event with a link to attend via Zoom webinar. 

About the speaker

Dr Jingbo Huang is the Director of UNU Macau where she is responsible for the institute’s overall management and for creating an enabling research ecosystem locally, regionally, and globally. She has 20 years of working experience in five UN organisations: the UN Secretariat in New York, UNDP, UN System Staff College, UNESCO and UNU. She founded the UN system executive management programmes, which quickly became the corporate standard.

Jingbo received her Doctor of Education degree from Columbia University, specialized in Communication, Computing, and Technology in Education. She also holds a Master’s degree in Arts Administration from Institut d’Etudes de Grenoble, France, and a second master’s degree in French Instruction from Indiana University – Bloomington. She received her bachelor’s degrees in Economics and French from Peking University, China. She has been a career advisor and visiting professor at the Sun Yat-sen University since 2007.

Each event features leading representatives and researchers from international organisations, UN agencies, and UNU institutes to stimulate discussion on sustainable development issues and initiatives. The events provide a unique opportunity for young researchers, graduate students, and civil society to become more familiar with SDG-related topics, ask questions, and learn how they can contribute to local and global SDG progress.
