Michieru Sakai is Council and Administrative Officer in the Office of the Rector.

Michieru joined the Office of the Rector in 2016. He supports the Secretary and Associate Secretary of the Council in the organisation and follow-up of Council meetings, and provides financial and administrative support for operations in the Office of the Rector. Michieru also manages the Registry at UNU Centre.

Michieru has lived in 10 countries in the past 14 years, during which time he studied at Michigan State University, Ruhr-University Bochum, and the University of Deusto. He earned master’s degrees in criminal justice and humanitarian action from the State University of New York and Uppsala University, respectively.

He worked as a research assistant in criminology at the University of Maryland; undertook an internship at UNODC in Vienna: and worked for UNDP in Cyprus, where he provided implementation support in his capacity as peacebuilding officer, and later worked as a consultant to provide technical review of documents in Cyprus. He is also a passionate photographer.
