Last week, UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala and UNU-CPR Chief Operations Officer Christina McElwaine were welcomed by Howard University President Ben Vinson III and staff for a meeting focused on potential partnerships related to education and technological innovation, and the universities' shared goal of advancing equity throughout the world.
During the discussion, Rector Marwala outlined UNU's approach to artificial intelligence research and emphasized the University's new strategic focus on strengthening partnerships, increasing visibility and policy impact through expansion and outreach, and enhancing knowledge and capacity through research and education, particularly in the Global South.
“We cannot talk about what is happening in Africa without being there,” Marwala said. “We cannot address issues of African descent without partnerships with institutions like Howard, universities on the African continent, and institutes in Latin America.”
