UNU-IAS Organises Webinar on Sustainable Water Resource Management in Asia

The online event discussed sustainable water resource management in Asia.

On 30 July 2021, the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) — in partnership with the Department of Economics, Andhra University, and Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, India — co-organised a webinar on the topic of “Sustainable Water Resource Management in Asia".

Kensuke Fukushi (Academic Programme Officer, UNU-IAS) delivered a keynote speech on Post-COVID-19 water management in urban areas in the anthropocene. Geetha Mohan (Research Fellow, UNU-IAS) shared research outcomes from the UNU-IAS Water for Sustainable Development project, including the necessary policy implications for sustainable water management by decreasing the water scarcity gap in terms of supply and demand of water resources in Asia. I Made Sudarma from Indonesia, M Prasada Rao, P Jagadeeswara Rao, and Sivakumar from India discussed the water resources management challenges in their regions, such as quality and quantity. Saroj Kumar Chapagain (Research Fellow, UNU-IAS) summarised the webinar discussions and highlighted the importance of resilience by developing smart water management tools and technologies. Around 70 participants attended this webinar from the government, academia, and private sector.
