UNU Featured in September Edition of UN Today

Marking the UNU 50th anniversary, three feature articles explore the leadership, history, role and function of UNU.

The September 2025 edition of UN Today "Focus On" features a three-article series exploring the vision, history, role and function of the United Nations University.

In an interview with UN Today, UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala shares his thoughts on how technology and education hold the keys to navigating the promises and perils of sustainable development: "There remains much work to be done to ensure that technology becomes a true equalizer that represents all voices, languages, cultures and communities."

Spotlighting this year's 50th anniversary of UNU, the second article provides a decade-by-decade overview of how UNU has "remained relevant through strategic adaptation while preserving its core missions" and grown to help the UN and its Member States address emerging global issues.

The third article presents a few of the ways UNU is a uniquely effective UN organ and why that matters, ranging from its autonomous support of the UN System and its research expertise across all 17 SDGs to its educational programmes rooted in UN values and its open door to partnerships.

The articles are available on the UN Today website and in the September 2025 edition of UN Today magazine.
