LANDSURF- Land Surface Processes as a Determinant of Climate Change in Africa – Scenarios, High-Resolution Modeling And Development of a Stakeholder Data Portal, is part of the WASCAL WRAP 2.0 initiative supported by the German Federal Ministry of High Education and Research, or Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF).
LANDSURF's main objective was to create a High-Resolution Regional Earth System Model for West Africa (WESM), together with a new fully interactive land surface scheme and an ocean model.
A critical part of LANDSURF was to develop a web portal as an interactive Decision Support System (DSS) for use in agriculture, food production, and land management. This portal is intended to assist stakeholders and smallholders in adapting to regional climate changes in sub-Saharan West Africa.
After three years of intensive research, the project partners achieved significant scientific milestones that necessitated the dissemination of key findings to key stakeholders in Ghana.
The workshop included presentations on key research findings by UNU-INRA PhD Research Fellow Barbara Baidoo, presentations on DSS, training and working group sessions the use of the DSS portal and discussions and feedback sessions with participants.
The workshop was from 18th and 19th November 2024, at the Foreign Service Institute(under Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration).
The LANDSURF workshop brought together about 25 participants from key ministerial sectors in Ghana such as Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Forestry Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, GMET, Ghana Hydrological Services, Ministry of Science, Technology and Information amongst others.
