Kingsley Orievulu is a social scientist who works on the social and ethical dimensions of climate and health; climate vulnerability, adaptation and mitigation plans; and climate and health policy.

He is interested in multidisciplinary and intersectional approaches to climate and health, and the uptake of climate policies to advance health and wellbeing especially in low-and middle-income countries and vulnerable societies at the frontlines of the climate crisis.  

Prior to joining the UNU, Kingsley was a research associate at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in South Africa where his research focused on drought impacts on HIV treatment adherence in under-resourced communities; the experiences of floods on people living with HIV in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa; community and health systems climate and health experiences, vulnerabilities, and adaptation strategies in South Africa; co-creating community-led solutions to climate-induced water insecurities in under-resourced societies; and ethical considerations in the conduct of research during pandemics and disasters. He obtained his doctoral degree in development studies (focusing on food security and the politics of development partnerships) at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He has also worked in the NGO/civil society sector in South Africa (HURISA, FHR, CIVICUS and UNFPA ESARO), supporting different human rights awareness and advocacy initiatives.
