Part of the Gender and Digital Health Webinar Series
This webinar is a global discussion on the causes of the digital gender gap. It highlights conscious and unconscious biases, mitigating reputational risks among others. Notably, the webinar aims to:
- Understand barriers to, and adoption of, mobile phones in India
- Examine barriers and triggers of mobile internet use in Africa and South Asia
- Discuss the digital divide on social media platforms – barriers and triggers of social media use in India
- Engage with gender-based discrimination in technical fields, which emanates from conscious and unconscious biases about women’s aptitude and ability

Who is part of it?
The Gender and Digital Health Webinar Series is organised by a consortium between UNU IIGH, The University of Cape Town and BBC Media Action. This online session had the participation of Georgia Barboni, Evidence for Policy Design from University of Warwick; Claire Sibthorpe from GSMA Connected Women; Sidharatha Swaroop from Facebook; Araba Sey, Principal Researcher with Research ICT Africa, and a Senior Research Scientist at the University of Washington Information School as speakers. The session also had the participation of guest discussant Kerry Scott.
