Bruce McDougall is a data developer at UNU-WIDER, where he helps facilitate the National Treasury’s secure data facility.
The research made possible by the secure data facility is used by a variety of organizations to help improve policy via data-driven decision making. Bruce's work involves seeking data improvements, processing new versions, creating metadata and documentation, providing access, and assessing output and disclosure risk.
Prior to UNU-WIDER, Bruce worked in both the private and public spaces as a data scientist. He has a career-long interest in the subject of risk versus utility: the need to maximize data quality while simultaneously preserving and enhancing the privacy of data subjects.
