Joseph Gozoya is a Research Assistant at UNU-WIDER based at South Africa’s National Treasury Secure Data Facility (NT-SDF).

In this capacity, he  supports the development and quality assurance of large tax administrative datasets, assists researchers with data access and analysis, and contributes to projects that inform public policy. He is also pursuing a PhD in economics at the University of Pretoria, where his research focuses on development economics and inequality. His work examines the role of firms in shaping earnings dispersion, with broader interests in labour markets, informal settlements, and climate change.

Joseph’s previous experience spans academic research support, IT services, and teaching. He holds a master’s degree in economics and an honours degree in econometrics from the University of Pretoria, as well as an honours degree in economics from Midlands State University, Zimbabwe
