On 23 October 2026, UNU welcomed a delegation from the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).
Led by UNU Rector Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala and TUHH President Prof. Dr. Andreas Timm-Giel, the bilateral meeting was an opportunity for the two universities to discuss progress of their current collaborations, share institutional updates and frame opportunities to expand their partnership. The meeting’s working lunch also provided a space for an open discussion on topics ranging from the ethics of artificial intelligence and quantifying its impact, to how physics, engineering and technology — and the theories and philosophies that underpin them — can help guide the world towards urgently needed solutions across sustainable development.
Hamburg University of Technology hosts one of the first UNU Hubs, which focuses on engineering to face climate change. In partnership with UNU-INWEH, the UNU Hub at TUHH holds a unique position among UNU research partnerships in that it connects technical expertise and engineering tools to design solutions that ensure the security of natural resources, water and the environment, while protecting people, ecosystems and businesses from climate risks and inequalities.
