UNU -INRA,Ghana Geographers Association Partner to organise Annual Geographers Conference

“Advancing Human, Space and Technology Nexus for Sustainable Development”

On 3-7th September 2024, UNU-INRA partnered with the Ghana Geographers Association to organise the Annual Geographers Association Conference, which aimed to explore the interactions between human, space and technology in achieving sustainable. The theme of this year’s conference was :“Advancing Human, Space and Technology Nexus for Sustainable Development”. This theme was to explore how human ingenuity, cutting-edge technology, and the vast expanse of geographic space is being used to propel sustainable human development, fostering a harmonious coexistence with planet earth and beyond.

The conference brought together researchers, practitioners and graduate students from different fields of geography, to critically explore issues regarding disaster management, monitoring and preserving the environment and providing real-time geospatial data for navigation and decision- The Conference covered discussions and presentations including :

1: Physical Environment and Climate Change 

2: Human Environment, Transportation, Urban Development and Sustainability 

3: Geospatial Technology 

4: Population, Gender, Health and Disaster Risk

 5: Agriculture and Rural Development

As part of the conference, INRA also held a session which included scientific paper presentations and plenary discussions where experts explored the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing Ghana/Africa in the quest for sustainable development amidst climate change and green transition. 

The plenary session on the theme “Bringing the low carbon transition blind alleys in African to the global arena for equity”, addressed key issues include the inherent injustice in climate impacts and historical emissions, compounded by Africa’s limited energy access and ways to properly position the continent’s policy environment for producing world leading solutions for a post-carbon economy.
