About the CSW

You’re invited to the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65)!

What is it about?

Every year for ten days, the session of the CSW provides an opportunity to review progress towards gender equality and the empowerment of women, identify challenges, set global standards and norms and formulate policies to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide. In every session, the Commission will agree on a principal outcome on the sessions priority theme, which is short, succinct and identified the gaps and challenges in the implementation of previous commitment to accelerate women’s rights and gender equality initiatives.

Who is part of it?

The Commission was established by ECOSOC resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946 to prepare recommendations on promoting women’s rights in political, economic, civil, social and educational fields. Every year, in consultative status with ECOSOC, representatives of Member States, United Nations entities and non-governmental organisations gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York for the Commission’s annual session.

Key Takeaways

  1. Women and girls empowerment

The CSW65 will discuss and answer questions around women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

  2. Reviewing past conclusions

It’ll also review and discuss women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development and the agreed conclusions of the sixtieth session

  3. Launching the Gender & Health Hub

Coordinated by the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH), GHH seeks to bridge the gaps between people, knowledge, policy and action to increase uptake and investment in effective strategies to address gender inequalities in health systems and health outcomes. GHH will support priority areas for gender-transformative interventions to contribute to the Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-Being (GAP).
