Matias Tenjin Hanawa is a Programme and Monitoring Officer in the Office of the Rector.
Matias manages the UNU monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems, supporting their implementation across all UNU institutes and promoting standardized approaches. He serves as the primary institutional focal point for M&E, providing guidance and technical support to institutes to ensure consistency and efficiency. He is also responsible for the continuous improvement of these systems, working to reduce administrative workload across institutes by automating indicators and streamlining processes.
Alongside his monitoring responsibilities, Matias supports the Programme Officer in responding to inquiries related to the UNU project management platform. He also contributes UNU institutional reporting to United Nations system frameworks, ensuring the effective use and consistency of institutional data.
Prior to joining UNU, Matias worked in the private sector, focusing on logistics and data analysis. He holds a Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development from UNU-MERIT and Maastricht University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
