From 10 September to 4 October, UNU will host “Human Model World”, an exhibition of scientific images organized by the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in partnership with the Basic Research Institutions Delivering Graduate Education (BRIDGE) Network and supported by UNU. The exhibition will be open on weekdays from 10:00 to 17:00 in the 2F Multipurpose Space at UNU Headquarters in Tokyo.
Imaging technologies have become an extension of our senses and memory, therefore a versatile scientific tool, extending and shaping how we understand ourselves and the worlds around us. For the fifth anniversary of the BRIDGE Network, scientists across its institutes have submitted images emerging from their research, showing glimpses of their laboratories and subjects.
The collection mirrors the multitudes of research fields within the network and in many instances blurs the lines between observation, documentation as well as the image becoming the actual centre point of a researcher’s inquiry. From artificial organ-like microstructures used in medical research to clusters of galaxies at the edge of the universe and everything in between, the images loosely cluster into the sectors HUMAN / MODEL / WORLD through a play of scales, methods and subjects. The clusters blend into one another on the premise that scientific inquiry expands continuously and multi-directionally
Access considerations
- UNU Headquarters (and the exhibition) will be closed for a public holiday on Monday, 16 September.
- From 10–13 September, access to the exhibition will be partially limited due to another event; visitors will not be able to view some of the artwork during this period.
About the BRIDGE Network
