Marieke Zwartjes is a Project Researcher at UNU-CRIS.
Ms. Marieke Zwartjes, of Belgian nationality, is a project researcher at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) since August 2011. She works on two research projects funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme: EU-GRASP and GR:EEN. Ms. Zwartjes holds an M.A. in European Union Studies of the Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) and a B.A. in History of Leiden University (Netherlands) and Ghent University (Belgium). Following her studies, Ms. Zwartjes was a trainee for the Research and Innovation Directorate-General of the European Commission; for the United Nations University Office at UNESCO in Paris (UNU-OP); and for the Benelux General Secretariat based in Brussels. Her master's dissertation addressed regional governance and energy cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa. Her research interests include regional integration, regional leadership, foresight and energy security.
