This project applies the framework of the City Biodiversity Index (CBI) to the City of Yokohama. It seeks to identify the status of Yokohama’s biodiversity and biodiversity conservation efforts, and their changes over time, and to suggest ways in which urban biodiversity can be managed on a sustainable basis. The findings from the project are expected to be used in city’s plans, strategies and policies and to be fed into the CBI framework which is being tested, revised and applied internationally by a growing number of cities. CBI was developed by the Global Partnership on Cities and Biodiversity, which UNU-IAS takes part of and is led by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) including international organizations (UN-Habitat, UNESCO and UNEP) and cities around the world.
