Organized crime has emerged as a major factor that exacerbates state fragility, fuels conflict and complicates conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction. Yet, the UN remains ill-equipped to deal with this challenge. Building on a systematic review of the evidence-base of the crime-conflict nexus and drawing on an Expert Reference Group on Organized Crime and Conflict made up of over twenty international experts on the subject, CPR is undertaking a twelve month policy research project, funded by DfID, that combines policy dialogue with solutions oriented research that aims at 1) filling major knowledge gaps on the inter linkages between crime and conflict; and 2) helping the UN assess, adapt, and develop effective policy tools and interventions.
