Using a gender and intersectionality lens in health research is useful to understand the varying health needs and challenges of various groups and enable health interventions to be tailored to the specific groups. Integrating these concepts are increasingly important for achieving the 2030 Sustainable Goals of Development goals to reduce inequities. Yet, in health research, very little is known about whether the aspects of gender and intersectionality are considered while conducting operational, implementation, and health systems research. This review examines how gender and intersectionality concepts were applied in operational, implementation, and health systems research to improve health care delivery.

Review question:How has gender and intersectionality been integrated into operational/implementation/ health systems studies?
