The project seeks to sustainably expand demand for and access to improved rural sanitation technologies through microfinance. It builds on and advances locally feasible, desirable and affordable innovations among marginalized and financially excluded rural households who practice, largely, open defecation. In the long-run, the project aims to attain enhanced safe sanitation coverage, sanitation-related entrepreneurship and welfare among rural household beneficiaries.

Overtime, project activities have been scaled up to engage also other interested beneficiaries (rural public primary schools, health centers and peri-urban households) and advance other activities including piloting fecal waste recycling for energy and agricultural production.
