This project addresses the challenges of preventing the recruitment and use of children by contemporary non-state armed groups (NSAGs) using extreme violence and the effective release and reintegration of those children who come to be involved or associated with such groups. The project has two goals:

First, to fill key knowledge gaps about: 1) child recruitment and use for extreme violence and 2) factors that impede child release from non-state armed groups; and

Second, to produce programmatic guidance for preventing the recruitment and use of children by groups involved in such violence, and effectively disengaging children from extreme violence for UN, national, and local actors in the field confronted with children associated with NSAGs.
