On 28 January 2016, the UNU Institute on Globalization, Culture and Mobility (UNU-GCM) hosted the first conference of the UNU Migration Network , a research platform promoting collaborative expertise across UNU institutes on the causes, consequences and policy implications of migration.

The conference’s theme “International Migration and Current Challenges: Transforming the Debate on Human Mobility” is a crucial contemporary topic, connected to key concerns of our world, including human and international security, sustainable development and gender issues. As a consequence, questions arising in the field of international migration provoke discussions among a variety of experts, stakeholders and citizens on how to better deal with human mobility. The conference aimed to provide the audience with an interdisciplinary and multifaceted analysis of these dynamics through research presentations from various members of the Network.
