    The 12th International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH) was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 24–27 May 2015, signaling awareness of the growing challenges to urban health in Asian nations and throughout the developing world.

    The UNU International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) contributed significantly to the success of the conference. Director Tony Capon served on the organising committee, and Research Fellows José SiriUta DietrichAtsuro Tsutsumi and Postdoctoral Fellow Emdad Haque delivered presentations (including two plenary speeches) spanning various conference themes, including:

    1. Addressing socioeconomic and environmental determinants of urban health and health inequities;
    2. Urban health care and public health service provision across the life course; and
    3. Strengthening governance for urban health

    A special session at the conference introduced the new UNU-sponsored International Council for Science Programme on urban health and well-being, and the associated research activities at UNU-IIGH.
