“Promoting human security and minimizing conflict associated with forced migration in the Pacific region”, a policy brief written by Cosmin Corendea, Valeria Bello and Timothy Bryar, has been published as a result of the Pacific research project led by the UNU Institute on Globalization, Culture and Mobility (UNU-GCM).
The policy brief covers research aimed at understanding both the main human security challenges that climate-induced migrants face when settling in receiving countries or communities and the major reasons for tensions or conflict. It offers seven policy recommendations that could promote human security and minimize conflict associated with forced migration in the Pacific region.
In June 2015, the Forum Regional Security Committee of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat considered a research report by the same name that is the result of the UNU Migration Network´s Pacific research project. That report is now being circulated among all members, who have been invited to share their comments by 21 September.
