Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid, Chairman of the Board for the UNU International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) and former Director of the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (2001–2008), is among six outstanding individuals who have received the prestigious 2015 Merdeka Award.
Prof. Zakri, who was selected in the environment category, is also the Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the founding chair of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and a member of the UN Scientific Advisory Board.
Malaysia’s annual Merdeka Award confers recognition to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the country of Malaysia in their respective fields.
