The PhD Internship Programme of the UNU World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) gives doctoral students an opportunity to utilize the Institute’s resources and facilities for their PhD dissertation or thesis research.
During their 2–3 months at UNU-WIDER in Helsinki, the PhD interns will work with UNU-WIDER researchers in areas of mutual interest. They will prepare one or more research papers and present a seminar on their research findings, and may have the opportunity to publish their research in UNU-WIDER’s working paper series.
UNU-WIDER accepts applications for its PhD Internship Programme only twice each year; the next deadline to apply is 31 March 2014.
Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme, be fluent in English, have shown an ability to conduct research on developing economies, and possess good analytical skills.
The programme provides a travel grant and a monthly stipend of EUR 1,500 during the period of the internship.
In collaboration with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), UNU-WIDER reserves a number of PhD Internship positions for economists from African countries. Applicants who are eligible, will be automatically designated as a potential AERC grant recipient (and if successful, will be asked to apply to become a member of the AERC network).
If you are interested in applying, please see the UNU-WIDER PhD Internships announcement for more information.
