Dr. Suma Athreye joined the UNU Maastricht Economic and Social Research and Training Centre on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT) in February 2008, on secondment from Brunel Business School, London, UK, where she is Reader in International Business and Strategy. At UNU-MERIT, Dr. Athreye will undertake three main strands of research related to her interests in technology and development of the Indian economy. The first strand of work will examine the evolution of business models used by firms in the Indian software sector. A second strand of research will compare the internationalization of operations by Chinese and Indian firms, while the third strand of work looks at the relative impact of technology outsourcing in developing the science base of the Indian and Chinese economies.
