Biographical Statement

Ms. Laura Schäfer is a Research Associate in the Environmental Migration and Social Vulnerability and Adaptation (EMSVA) section, particularly working on the MCII project. For MCII she follows and analyses the international climate policy process, and is involved in research with a focus on climate risk insurance and loss & damage.

Prior to her engagement at UNU-EHS she worked as student assistant at the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) in Berlin, amongst others analyzing stakeholder participation in adaptation to climate change in Germany. Prior to this she worked as freelance employee and intern for the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Bremen and Cambodia as well as for the environmental NGO Germanwatch in Bonn.

Ms. Schäfer holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) in European and World Politics: Sustainable Development in Multilevel Governance from the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, focusing on international climate policy and climate change adaptation. In 2014 she obtained her Master’s degree with a thesis on climate justice. For her Bachelor degree (B.A.) she studied Political Sciences and History at the Technical University of Darmstadt with a focus on environmental politics and political theory.

Her mother tongue is German and she is fluent in English and French.
