An Ethiopian national, Dr. Mulu Gebreeyesus Gebreyohannes joined the UNU Maastricht Economic and Social Research and Training Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT) on 1 June 2008. He was previously Research Fellow and Head of Poverty and Sectoral Development Directorate at the Ethiopian Development Research Institute.
Dr. Gebreeyesus’ research interest is on international comparative studies of the relationship between technological capabilities and institutions, and firm competitiveness. His current work addresses such issues as firm entry-exit, agglomeration, export participation, trade liberalization on firm productivity and growth using a large panel data set from Ethiopian manufacturing. He is also involved on studies of industrial policy and export oriented sectors such as garment, floriculture, and footwear in Ethiopia based on own field survey.

Dr. Gebreeyesus holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, Sweden and remains a Research Associate at the Department.
