On 3 July 2019, the United Nations University (UNU) is organising the symposium “Integrating the SDGs with Business” to discuss how companies can strategically implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. Please note that this event will be held in Japanese only.
Social destabilisation caused by poverty, inequality, environmental degradation, and the like not only hinders sustainable development but is highly likely to have a serious negative impact on healthy corporate development. While many governments and organisations have been making efforts to help achieve the SDGs, more active and strategic participation from the private sector is needed.
In October 2017, 20 companies gathered at the United Nations University headquarters in Tokyo to form the SDG Corporate Strategy Forum. Since its launch, members of the forum have held monthly dialogues with various key actors including governments, pension management organisations, business owners, and nongovernmental organisations.
To introduce the outcomes of the forum and to support companies in proactively contributing to building a sustainable society based on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the forum has compiled a leaflet called “Integrating the SDGs with Business”. This document, along with case studies by participating companies, will be introduced at the symposium, followed by an expert panel discussion.
