On 30 August 2019, as part of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) will organise the side event “Toward the Achievement of the SDGs and Promotion of TICAD for Africa – Contribution of Youth Researchers from Japan”. The event will feature presentations of research results from the UNU-IAS Global Leadership Training Programme in Africa (GLTP). Since the GLTP’s inception in 2013, 57 Japanese postgraduate students have conducted research at 23 universities and institutes in 13 African countries. GLTP is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.
On the occasion of TICAD7, graduates of GLTP will present their overall results in line with the priorities of the TICAD6 Nairobi Declaration. GLTP has fostered a broad range of research, which will be introduced by the young researchers in the context of the SDGs in Africa. This event will also include an extended discussion between participants on further strengthening educational and academic partnerships between Africa and Japan.
