The UNU Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES) will host a Nexus Seminar on “Nexus Approach as Tool for Transboundary Water Conflict Resolution”, presented by Prof. Petra Schneider of Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal.
Water scarcity is, in principle, a local problem; it becomes international in the case of transboundary resource use. In practice, approaches for an equitable use of transboundary resources are based on benefit-sharing methodologies on the catchment scale. Peaceful dispute resolution is a main task in hydropolitics, based on the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Transboundary Water Management (TWM). While IWRM is an engineering approach to sustainable watershed management, TWM provides a political framework for effective crisis prevention and nonviolent conflict management under a nexus-based resource-sharing strategy.
For more information on the seminar, see the event announcement on the UNU FLORES page.
