The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO) will host the special seminar, “International cooperation through establishment of standards and certification systems for environmentally-friendly products and technologies”.
Public-private partnerships are currently considered the main means for developing overseas markets for Japanese products and technologies, with various international cooperation initiatives underway. In the area of environmentally-focused technology, one of the aims of such initiatives is the regulation of industrial standards relevant to the products. However, in practice, such regulatory systems are rarely adopted.
This seminar will introduce case studies from developing countries in Asia that are engaging in standardisation and certification processes of environmentally-friendly products. It will also consider how international cooperation can be strengthened for countries to better develop and implement regulatory systems.
For more information on the seminar, or to register, see the event announcement on the UNU-IAS website.
