The United Nations University will host the launch of the “2012 Global Go-To Think Tank Index,” with Dr. James G. McGann of the the University of Pennsylvania. The report focuses on the rise of think tanks in G20 and BRIC countries.
As Dr. McGann emphasizes, the importance of this report “lies in its ability to highlight the important contributions that think tanks make to governments and civil societies around the world”. He underlines the role of think tanks in long under-represented regions, such as the Middle East and North Africa, Africa and Latin America.
This annual report is compiled through a three-stage process of international peer and expert reviews by policymakers, journalists, government officials, donors, think tank executives and scholars from over 120 countries. It identifies influential organizations from over 180 countries worldwide, and classifies them according to geographic location, budgets less than US$5 million, as well as “new think tanks,” amongst other divisions.
The rank of the United Nations University as a global think tank will be announced at this event.
