To celebrate United Nations Day, on 13 October UNU-FLORES and partners will organise a programme on the topic of the “Decade on Biodiversity”.
Each year, to commemorate UN Day in Dresden, UNU-FLORES co-organises an event to discuss an issue of importance to the United Nations, and its significance in the daily lives of the local community. As the UN Decade on Biodiversity (2011–2020) draws to an end, this topic will be the focus for the 2020 UN Day celebration.
Prof. Dr Josef Settele of Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (and expert at the World Council for Biodiversity (IPBES)) will report on this issue, and then together with Ms Eva Jähnigen (Deputy Mayor for Environment and Municipal Utilities, City of Dresden) and Prof. Dr Edeltraud Guenther (Director of UNU-FLORES) will discuss solutions for people, companies, and the city of Dresden with a view to preserving biodiversity.
The award ceremony of the Lokale Agenda für Dresden e.V. and the Lions Club Dresden Agenda 21 will be held as part of the event.
Advance registration is required. Due to the pandemic, the number of participants is limited.
