The start date of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, 7 April, has been designated by the UN General Assembly as the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide in Rwanda. To mark this year’s 20th anniversary the Republic of Rwanda launched Kwibuka20, a series of events commemorating the tragedy.
On 7 April the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Japan in collaboration with the United Nations University is organizing the “20th Commemoration of the Rwanda Genocide”. The event is being organized under this year’s Kwibuka20 theme “Remember, Unite, Renew”, and will honor the nearly one million people who lost their lives in Rwanda from April to July 1994 and celebrate the remarkable story of resilience and hope of the Rwandan people as they build a new, prosperous and cohesive society. The event will reaffirm our shared humanity and recommit to ensuring that genocide never happens again anywhere in the world.
The event will be in English with Japanese interpretation.
This event is free and open to the public, but advance registration (by Thursday, 3 April at 5:00PM) is required. To register, contact the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Japan via email or fax at:
