The United Nations University Rector, Dr. David Malone, will give a special lecture at Hokkaido University on 29 August entitled “The UN Security Council: Boom or Bust?”.
Under the UN Charter, the UN Security Council is afforded distinct legally binding powers unmatched by any other international institution. Dr. Malone will discuss how the Council’s practice has evolved since the Cold War including vital new components and drivers of Security Council decision-making and new institutional developments in the Council’s life (including pressure for reform of the Council’s composition).
The lecture will be in English. The event is free and open to the public.
Opening remarks will be given by Ichiro Uyeda, Vice President, Hokkaido University.
