Symposium: “Present state and perspective of study on nature, environment and culture in the desert and dry areas”
Prof. Iwao Kobori served at the United Nations University until two days before his death on 26 November 2010). From 1956, he devoted his life to the study of underground water sources and qanat (a water management system) in the Middle East, the Maghreb (Northwest Africa) and China.
In remembrance of Prof. Kobori’s achievements, and his long association with UNU, this memorial symposium will be held at UNU Headquarters. Taking a look back on academic activities in the countries on which Prof. Kobori left his footprint, the symposium look at the present state and perspective of the study in Japan on desert and arid land.
