Roser Gascons Cuatrecasas is a Global Fellow with UNU-CPR’s Conflict Prevention and Sustaining Peace Pillar.
Roser’s research explores state repression, political narratives and socio-political developments in Central and East Asia, with a particular focus on governance, human rights and the impact of international interventions. She has conducted extensive research on the Chinese Communist Party’s strategies in Xinjiang and China’s health diplomacy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Roser holds a Master’s in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from Utrecht University, where her thesis analyzed dispossession strategies in Xinjiang. She also completed an exchange programme in East Asian Studies at National Taiwan University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
Prior to joining UNU-CPR, Roser gained policy and research experience with the European External Action Service in Uruguay, the Campaign for Uyghurs, and the Princess Taghrid Institute for Development and Training in Jordan. She has also interned at the Confucius Institute Foundation of Barcelona, supporting cultural diplomacy initiatives.
Her professional interests include applied policy research, strategic communication, youth engagement, and peacebuilding initiatives. Roser is multilingual, fluent in Catalan, Spanish, and English, with working knowledge of Chinese and beginner-level French.
